For Beauty, For Desire
Multi-channel video installation. 8 videos, projected onto house walls, 5 - 30 minute loops, 2022
The multi-channel installation transfers atmospheres of another place onto the plain facades of the newly built Europacity. The images are poetic visions for another Europacity, visions that show how the street space could also be. The focus is on the in between-spaces of the city, spaces between the apartents and the street. Balconies, accessible roofs, empty land between the buildings, a wall in front of where the old people of the neighborhood meet. Undefined places, unregulated places. Two people play frisbee from one roof to another. The videos are projected onto two opposite walls of buildings in the Europacity, the frisbee goes from one video to the other. The almost infinite roofscape in the background of the films is literally projected onto the houses of Europacity, where the roofs remain closed or private space. The vastness of the roofscape and the closeness to the sky are celebrated and become a place of desire, a vision of desire. For 10 minutes a wasteland is filmed, where the wind moves through the grasses. Via megaphone a moped driver plays a song about Rosa Luxemburg. The homage to the communist combatant is carried through the evening sun of the busy streets, the richness of the urban spaces through which he rides becomes the central element of the film. As projections in Europacity, the films point to the vacuums the neighborhood contains.
